The research project “Energy and Security in the South China Sea” was conducted at the Centre for Development and Environment, University of Oslo, during 1998-2001. Most of the documentation here stems from that project, but substantial material was added in 2012.
The aim of the project was to provide advice to the Norwegian government, media and oil companies engaged in the South China Sea area. The following researchers took part: Cecilie Figenschou Bakke, Marius Gjetnes, Kristen Nordhaug, Johan Henrik Nossum, Tom Næss, Sveinung Johannes Sloreby, Knut Snildal, Leni Stenseth, Yue Feng, and Professor Stein Tønnesson (project leader).
The project received funding from the Research Council of Norway (the Petropol programme), Statoil AS, the Norwegian Shipowners Association, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
